Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made restorations bonded to the front surfaces of selected teeth. They can change a tooth’s visible colour, shape, size, or proportion and may be considered when more conservative options cannot provide the desired result.

What can veneers address?

After a complete examination, veneers may be considered for:

  • Selected chips, wear, or uneven edges
  • Spaces between certain teeth
  • Discolouration that does not respond predictably to whitening
  • Teeth that appear irregular in shape or proportion
  • Minor alignment concerns when orthodontic treatment is not preferred or appropriate

Planning your veneers

The dentist evaluates your teeth, gums, enamel, bite, and existing restorations. Photographs, scans, or X-rays may be recommended. The proposed shape and shade are discussed before treatment, along with alternatives such as whitening, bonding, orthodontics, or crowns.

What does treatment involve?

Some enamel may need to be removed so the veneers fit naturally and securely. An impression or digital scan is then used to create the restorations. Temporary veneers may be placed while the final veneers are made. At the fitting visit, the dentist checks appearance and bite before bonding them to the teeth.

Important considerations

Veneer treatment is usually irreversible when enamel is removed. Veneers can chip, fracture, or eventually require replacement, and they are not appropriate when active decay or gum disease is present. Patients who grind their teeth may need additional protection.
